The PTA
The Gorse Ride Schools Parent Teacher Association (PTA) covers both the Infant and Junior Schools. The main purpose of the PTA is to raise funds for the schools to enhance facilities which are outside the normal school budget. We also organize social activities such as discos and parties for the children, and quiz nights for adults.
All parents and carers are automatically members of the PTA, which is run by a committee of mums and dads, the head teachers and teacher representatives. The committee meets approximately 5 times per year, with an AGM early in the autumn term. All members are welcome to come along to the meetings.
PTA Events & Achievements
Events have included: Summer Fayre, Christmas Fayre, Sponsored Bounce, Infants Spring Party, Infants Christmas Party, Junior’s Autumn Disco, Junior’s Spring Disco, Quiz Nights, Nearly New Uniform Sale, Ladies Pamper Evening, Family Bingo, 100 Club.
In the past three years the PTA has raised over £34,000 for the schools. This has enabled the purchase of many extras, including the new playground equipment, piano, and drums for the junior school and helping to fund the ITC suite and outdoor equipment in the infant school, as well as extra-curricular activities for both schools.
Additional money is raised from the collection of various items, currently: Nestle cereal box top tokens, Old mobile phones, Empty printer cartridges. Collection boxes are in school receptions.
Organisation
The PTA is made up of treasurer, secretary and 5 teams overseen by the chair. The teams are:
- Entertainment Team - Booking discos, entertainers, organizing music and quiz.
- Resource Team - Organizing raffle tickets and prizes.
- Catering Team - Purchase food and tableware, arrange serving of refreshments.
- Publicity Team - Arrange advertising for events and produce posters.
- Miscellaneous Team - Produce floor plans for fayres, invite stall holders, organize helper lists.
Each new member brings with them new ideas and skills. Think about joining a team. Your commitment can be as big or as small as you want, but it will make a difference and the children are the winners benefiting from the proceeds raised from the popular events that we organize.
Come along to our next meeting, you don’t have to join the committee, but your contribution and ideas would be much appreciated. Look out for details of our next meeting in our newsletter or on the PTA notice board, (on the infant school wall, between the infant and junior schools).
To find out more email us at gorseride_pta@hotmail.co.uk or via the school offices.
New Uniform Sales
The PTA also sells new uniform items embroidered with the school logo. These may be purchased at our uniform shop (open on the 3rd Thursday of the month, during term time, 2:45-3:45pm) or using an Uniform Order Form which is also available from the schools’ receptions. This is non-profit making service.

There are many ways you can support the PTA and we value all of them:
- helping for an hour at an event
- donations for events
- baking for events
- helping to organize events
- new ideas for events and ways of doing things
- collecting tokens, mobile phones, printer cartridges
- using your skills in whatever way you can
